The winner's success
It's not a surprise that the winning entry gets the highest placings in the charts. Only Teardrops by Emmelie de Forest has of course topped the Danish charts. It had peaked at number 2 when chosen in Denmark back in January but has made its way to number 1, where it remains, since it won the international competition and has already been certified gold.
In several other countries like Greece, Sweden or Germany it has also topped the digital/download charts making the official singles Top 5 there and also in The Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
In Spain, Austria and Norway it has climbed its way to the Top 10 so far. In the UK and Belgium inside the Top 15, Finland in the Top 20 and it has also entered the Australian singles chart at number 47.
Emmelie's album, which has the same title as her Eurovision winner, landed inside the Danish Top 5 and has also started to appear in some international markets like France and Sweden.
HUNTER & PREY
170 million viewers saw Emmelie de Forest take Europe by storm with her winning song Only Teardrops. The day after, the song went #1 in 12 European countries. Now she is ready with her new single “Hunter & Prey”
WHAT IS THE SONG “HUNTER & PREY” INSPIRED BY?
It actually started out with inspiration from the movie Roman Holiday, staring Audrey Hepburn, using the feeling of sudden freedom and opportunity to do what you have always dreamt about. Early in the writing process, the song took a turn towards a more dark universe with inspiration from the mystical creatures in Twilight and the wild and breathtaking nature in Wuthering Heights as well as the intense and confusing emotions between the main characters from this novel, Heathcliff and Catherine in their childhood years.
A mix of movies, novels and dreams that have mesmerized me always inspires my songs. Whenever I come across a good story, I tend to use elements from each of them mixing them together into one long movie in my head. I am blessed with a very vivid imagination and can spend hours day dreaming, making up new stories and play them out in my head. It is truly a dream come true, getting the opportunity to tell these stories through my songs.
HOW WILL YOU DESCRIBE THE WRITNG PROCESS OF THE SONG?
This was only the second song we wrote for the album. I wrote it together with the talented Lise Cabble and Jacob Glæsner. Some songs takes a lot of work and can be many hours, days even years in the making, but this was one of those songs that just wanted to be told here and now. So writing it was kind of being in a state of flow, you know where you forget about time and space because you are so absorbed by what you are working on. I love that feeling!
HOW DOES IT FEEL PERFORMING THE SONG?
It is great! It is darker than Only Teardrops, so it takes me and my musicians into a different state of mind. It also gives me an opportunity to challenge myself due to the higher notes in the chorus.
WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING SINCE THE EUROVISION FINALE
I know it sounds a bit tacky, but to be honest, I’ve been living my dream! I have been traveling Europe, especially Germany and Scandinavia, doing PR for my album, performing Only Teardrops and doing TV shows and interviews. This has been a great opportunity for me to meet many of the wonderful people and fans who supported my song and me.
Though, I most also admit that my schedule has been hectic at times – but this is completely overshadowed by the fantastic positive feedback I get. I am trying to absorb and enjoy every single moment this victory has given me so far!
WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT PLANS?
My calendar is packet with a bunch of exciting plans! Of course there are continuously interviews and shows around Europe. Besides that, I am about to shoot the music video for Hunter & Prey – I really look forward to this. I assure you it will be really beautifulJ I am also soon to start up rehearsing with my band for our upcoming tour in Denmark and Germany, which I am looking so much forward to!
